The Northern Territory section of the Stuart Highway, part of Highway 1, takes you from the heart of Australia, Alice Springs to Tennant Creek, the "golden heart of the Territory" through to Katherine and the land of the "Never Never" on to the cosmopolitan Capital City of the Territory, Darwin.
The highway is named
after one of Australia's most famous explorers - John McDouall Stuart, who was
the first to traverse the continent from Adelaide to the north coast just east
of Darwin back in 1862.
Along the way you will find many historical sites telling the story of the pioneers and the early settlers.
For first time visitors to the Territory this trip is a must. Check with your local tourist information centre on details for holidays in the Territory.
