BACKGROUND
Debbie Kernich has been Secretary/Treasurer of the Northern Territory 8 Ball Association for a total of fourteen years since 1982 and continuously since 1992.
Debbie was awarded the Australian Sports Medal in recognition of her service to sports administration. This Medal was awarded during the year 2000 to commemorate Australian sporting achievement and has been established as a commemorative award within the Australian honours system. The Governor-General authorises all awards within the Australian honours system after nominations from various bodies.
At the inaugural Northern Territory Chief Ministers Women's Achievement Awards in 1998, Debbie was honoured to be named as one of the original recipients of that award for her contribution to Sports Administration.
She was made a Life Member for her outstanding contribution to Northern Territory Eightball and is also a Life Member of Darwin and Districts Eightball Association an organisation she served as Secretary for well over ten years. During her time on the Darwin Committee Debbie took on the task of rejuvenating the Junior league and passed on a very well run competition when she moved on. Debbie was also Secretary of the Australian Eightball Federation for two years.
She is currently Manager of the Northern Territory Reserve Squad which competes in West Timor, Indonesia each year.
Although having a nursing background, Debbie devotes her working time to the administration of a successful family electrical contracting business which has been operating since 1978.
